Local: Champasak Province
This festival is held during the third full moon of the lunar calendar on the grounds of the enchanting pre-Angkorian Vat Phou ruins in Champasak. The ruins of Vat Phou temple are more than 1,000 years old. The annual festival is held to revere the temple complex, which is a Unesco World Heritage Site.
The three-day celebration will include light shows, processions, recitals, chanting, almsgiving, and praying in surrounding areas of the temple. Tourists can enter the site from 8am to 5pm every day to worship at Buddha images and take photos of the many ancient structures and panoramic views. To coincide with the festival, a trade fair is held to showcase products originating from southern Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
