Venue: Khammouane Province
This traditional religious festival is held at Sikhottabong Stupa, located about 8 kilometers to the South of Thakhek town. The stupa was built between the 9th and 10th Century by King Nanthasene and was restored to its original grandeur during the 1950’s. This is a special time to pay homage to one of the most sacred Buddhist stupas in the region.
Sikhottabong Stupa festival is held annually during the full moon in February and it is celebrated over several days. During the festival, there are religious activities along with a local trade fair and performances held around the stupa, which attract many tourists especially people of north eastern Thailand, Nakhorn Phanom, and nearby provinces come and gather for stupa worshipping and entertainment.
